Packed with nutrients and super refreshing this easy green juice recipe is thirst-quenching and will leave you feeling revitalized!
Green juice typically consists of various leafy greens such as spinach or kale blended with other vegetables like cucumber or celery. This green juice recipe is one of my favourite blends which is super refreshing on a warm day.
This green juice contains fresh lemon juice which is a source of vitamin C (1) but also gives this juice a zesty flavour.
Some green juices can taste too intense and earthy, but apples give this juice a well-rounded, natural sweetness and a refreshing flavour.
Key Ingredients
- Kale and/or spinach leaves - You can use either one of these or both work well together.
- Celery - Adds extra fibre and bulk to the juice blend without adding extra sweetness.
- Cucumber - Adds moisture to the juice blend.
- Apples - Green apples work best and are my preference but you can use any apples.
- Fresh ginger - This gives an extra zing to the juice and may have added health benefits for the digestive and immune systems (2).
- Fresh lemon - This gives the juice a zesty sharpness and added flavour. You could also use fresh lime.
- Fresh parsley - Adds an extra earthiness and extra antioxidants and phytochemicals (3).
Making juice without a juicer
I made this juice in my cold-pressed juicer but if you don't have a juicer then you can also make it in a high-speed blender. You can blitz the fruit and vegetables in the blender and then use a sieve or a nut bag to separate the fruit and vegetable pulp from the juicer.
Additional Recipe Tips
- This juice is best enjoyed straight away, though you can keep it in the fridge overnight.
- The juice may start to separate. Just quickly stir it before drinking.
- If you want to lower the sugar content of your juice you can decrease the amount of apples you use and bump up the celery and cucumber.
- Apples oxidise if left after a while which may turn your juice a little brown if left. It is still fine to drink although is best consumed within 24 hours.
- If you would like to make this juice go further then mixing it with coconut water can work well, although do bear in mind this will bump up the sugar content.
